I just returned to Guiyang after a two week visit to the USA. The trip was about 30 hours: Traverse City to Detroit 1 hr, Detroit to Shanghai 13 hours, and Shanghai to Guiyang 3 hours. Together with the layovers and delays, it added up to about 30 hours. I make it a point not to sleep too much before the flight, and the last six or eight hours of this trip went fast because I was asleep.
I watch the air ticket rates, and the rates have come down. This round trip ticket was $750, complete. I was in an overbooked situation last trip and got a $500 credit for the next flight. The entire trip cost a net of $250 after applying the credit. The flight was comfortable and the movies were quite good. The twenty minute taxi ride to my apartment cost about $7 (50 RMB).
I cast my ballot and talked to a lot of people. We talked about the politics in the USA, election process, and so on. It was a privilege to participate. More about that later . . .

My two-week visit to the USA has been very interesting, and a little frightening. Hillary supporters are in mourning, like when terrorists attacked us on 911. People seem to be determined to get you into an argument. There seems to be a lot of fear over what Trump will do, even from the Trump supporters. These stories about what Trump will do is colored by the campaign, which I wasn’t present for. So I can’t fully understand. I went to bed at midnight on election night and woke up in a different country. Now I understand what Einstein must of felt like when people were saying dumb things around him . . .

I just stumbled onto a recent post about Libo, in the extreme south of Guizhou. It is a minority section of Guizhou and is advertised as the most beautiful county in China. Simone Giacomozzi came to Guiyang almost four years ago and opened his first restaurant in China. He is 37 and worked as a chef in kitchens all over Italy. He brings world class Italian Cuisine to Guiyang.
His place is called FoodArt and is located beside the Starbucks and McDonalds at Zhilingan. That is at the intersection of Yanan Lu and Ruijin Lu.(southwest corner, just below the pedestrian overpass that crosses Yanan Lu. It’s two blocks west of the fountain (Pensuichi). The current subway construction has made a mess of the neighborhood, but will soon make access very convenient. It is located in the building beside Starbucks, in the lower level, very near McDonalds.

The Southwest Guizhou Xingyi Wanfenglin International Walking Hikng Event has begun recruiting of participants and guests. Local foreigners in Guiyang are in high demand and are invited to participate in the event as guests.
Xingyi is beautiful in the autumn, and this is the third annual hiking expedition. The
Xingyi Wanfeng Lin is a famous made famous by geographer and traveler Xu Xiake during the Ming Dynasty. His poem referenced “Scenic areas within the mountains, pastoral landscapes, rivers, villages, caves, all intertwined, and beautiful.
The event is scheduled for November 4th to 6th and is expected to have five to six hundred participants. The cost is 800 yuan per person and foreign guests are free to participate at no charge. A new movie house has opened that caters to private groups. It has a large variety of movies available, including new releases. There are five private rooms with screens, couches, and even mattresses. An ideal place for a private party of two to twelve. It is in the Huaguoyuan Center, right above the public cinema on the 32nd floor.
If you want to book a room for a private party, it costs 68 rmb for a two hour movie. If you want six hours, it would be 204 rmb, and so on. You can call Mr. Wang at 13511973753 to get more information or to book a room. The photos below show more about the place:
